About
Virginia based singer/songwriter Stephen Christoff has been an Americana singer/songwriter since he was in his twenties and writes songs that run the gamut stylistically. He got his start in music by singing in choir and playing the trombone in band. When he was nineteen years old, his Dad told him that if he wanted to go forward in music, it would be nearly impossible to sing and play the trombone at the same time so, his Dad bought him his first Mandolin. He started playing the guitar some years later because of his love of Bossa Nova.
His influences range from Sting to Paul Simon, Nick Drake, Radiohead, Jobim, Joni Mitchell, Paul McCartney and Talking Heads.
He sings and plays the Slide Resonator guitar, the acoustic guitar and the jaw harp.
In the Fall of 2024, Stephen performed on CBS this morning. He was a featured artist on WHRO Norfolk Public television. Williamsburg’s Next Door Neighbor Magazine did a feature article on his music. He’s performed on “Hunter in the morning” radio show on Norfolk public radio and “The Electric Crowd” radio show on Richmond public radio. He’s done regular performances at The Hennage theater, The Kimball theater, The Williamsburg Inn, An Occasion for the Arts festival and The Black Swamp Arts festival. In recent months, he’s performed in 2nd Sundays festival, Berret’s Restaurant, Spoke + Art, Frothy Moon Brewhouse and Aleworks Brewing Company.
